Corn Snake Inspired Manicure

It's Monday, so I figured I'd do a "manicure Monday" post. This week I looked to my pet corn snake, Rufus, for inspiration.

He is an amelanistic corn snake (which is also referred to as an albino corn snake). I love his markings, and have been meaning to try to do a mani that would do him justice for a while. He was not feeling much like a model today, so it was hard to get a picture where he and I were both in focus.

I tried for an ombre nail pattern. I put 2 coats of L.A. Colors white (energy source, I think). Then I sponged on Sally Hanson Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Mellow Yellow, Sun Kissed, and Cherry Red, to get the gradient effect. I still have a ways to go before I master this technique, and I wasn't happy with the way it looked, so I put a layer of China Glaze Ray-daint on top. It was just the effect I was looking for, and really made my nails pop! Then I slapped on some topcoat. The pictures don't really do it justice, but it's hard to capture any of the super glittery polishes accurately in a photo.

Thanks for reading!

Pour Painting on Pots

Yesterday and today I spent the day painting terracotta pots using the pouring method.

This is something I have never done before, but I saw it on Pinterest, and it didn't look too challenging. When I started Googling the subject in an effort to learn more about it, I stumbled upon a really cool YouTube video of artists making a "tall painting". I decided to try to blend the two ideas together. (I didn't want to waste all the paint that would be dripping off of the pots.) So off to Lowes I went for my supplies.

Keep reading to see the process of how I did it!

Trying to figure this whole blogging thing out.

Well, I guess I'm the new kid on the block, so I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Ashleigh Davis, and I'm 28 years old. My husband and I just celebrated out first wedding anniversary in May. I have no biological children of my own, but I have adopted my husband's 11 year old son, and it's the best thing I've ever done. I work full time, and when I'm not at work, I'm trying to figure out this whole wife/ mom thing at home.

I have always enjoyed anything artistic, but I rarely stick with one specific hobby long enough to master anything. Hence the name: The Spasmodic Dabbler.

Spasmodic - Occurring or done in brief, irregular bursts.

Dabbler - An amateur who engages in an activity without serious intentions and who pretends to have knowledge.

It seemed fitting.

So yeah, this is my blog. It's my first one so I'm sure it will be rough for a while. I plan on posting about whatever random hobby I happen to be dabbling in at the time.
